Break-out Session Description
_______________
Title: Are Distributed Resources in your Customers Future? Friend or Foe? One perspective:
Summary:
Environmentally attractive, small scale on-site energy sources (Typically < 1 MW) are quickly gaining acceptance in the market place as alternatives to traditional Grid Power and along with it providing new solutions to customers energy management needs. The range of technologies that are being commercialized is both exciting and frightening to customers and energy companies alike. This session focuses on an update on what technologies to look for, what impact this will have on customers and grid operators, what barriers exist to the growth of these technologies and further offers suggestions as to how customers and utilities can mutually benefit.
Alliant Energy, both through its utility and ESCO affiliates, has been installing distributed resources on customer's premises for over 12 years, with installing equipment manufactured by Generac, Caterpillar and Cummins. It believes that DR technologies will play a significant role in meeting customers energy needs. Grid operators will need to quickly learn how to take advantage of it. Alliant Energy is expanding its commitment to advance this industry as both an investor in emerging DR technologies and as a strategic partner encouraging the market development for these new technologies. Alliant Energy is an investor in Capstone Turbine Corporation, Nth Power Fund II and is a distributor for Capstone MicroTurbines. It is actively pursuing partnerships with others to advance the technology and market applications.
