About the Speaker:
Dr. Alumbaugh is an Assistant Professor in Geological Engineering, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He received his BS degree in Geological Sciences from San Diego State University in 1986, and MS and Ph.D. degrees in Geophysical Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley in 1989 and 1993, respectively. After finishing the PhD, he joined the Geophysical Technology Department at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, NM as a post-doctoral researcher, and was promoted to a Senior Member of the Technical Staff in 1996. Dr. Alumbaugh's interests have been focused on the use of electromagnetic geophysical methods for imaging the Earth's subsurface, with applications in environmental assessment and waste site characterization, hydrological studies, and natural resource exploration and characterization. He has been involved in all facets of the geophysical imaging problem including data acquisition and interpretation, as well as theoretical development of computer algorithms to assist in data processing and interpretation.
