About the Speaker:
Dr. Shutske is the Agricultural Safety and Health Specialist with the University of Minnesota's (UM) Extension Service in the Department of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering. He has worked in the area of workplace injury prevention, health promotion, and stress management for 18 years, including 13 at the UM and 3 years with the Farm Bureau Insurance Companies in Illinois, Washington and Oregon. Dr. Shutske was born and raised on a family farm in northern Indiana and is still involved in seasonal agricultural activities. His work in safety engineering and health education is widely recognized throughout the county, based on research in the areas of safe design, creation of workplace guidelines for workers and children, and analysis of costs and outcomes of farm work injuries. Each year, Dr. Shutske works directly with, and provides educational programs to, thousands of agricultural producers, children, agribusiness leaders, ag industry workers, health professionals, students, and members of the media throughout the state.
