     About the Speaker:

Mr. John Loud is a Principal Engineer based in Exponent's Menlo Park, California Office. Mr. Loud specializes in electrical engineering issues. His expertise includes rotating electric machines, specifically vector control of induction motors; and feedback and control systems. He addresses issues related to electronic systems including printed circuit board problems, electronic component failures, circuit analysis and propagating failures. Mr. Loud has also worked with secondary battery systems in the area of Li ion cell testing and protection systems, NiMH, NiCad, and lead acid charging systems. He has performed fault analysis on electrical distribution equipment and switch gear and analyzed power electronics including DC-DC and DC-AC power converters. Mr. Loud had additional experience with industrial electronic equipment including automated metering equipment; locomotive black-box event recorders; locomotive control equipment. He also addresses issues related to electronic manufacturing and service: equipment production, test and circuit board rework and repair. Prior to joining Exponent, Mr. Loud worked for Neta Corporation and Q-Tron Industrial Electronics and worked as a consultant for companies such as General Motors EMD Division, Burlington Northern Railroad, CSX Railroad, and the Achison Topeka & Santa Fe Railroad.

     About the Speaker:

Dr. Johnson is a Managing Engineer in Exponent's Electrical practice, and is based in Boston, Massachusetts. He specializes in issues pertaining to electrical engineering particularly as they relate to the electrical environment of power systems. Dr. Johnson has extensive experience with the electric and magnetic fields of transmission and distribution systems as well as the audible noise, radio noise, and ozone that may be produced by high voltage power systems. His work has involved the measurement, modeling, and mitigation of the electrical environment of transmission lines, transformer vaults, and underground cables. His experience also involves issues dealing with lightning, electrical transients, and ground currents.
