_______________

Title: Earth Current Research Update

Summary: (see handout)

Speaker 1: David Alumbaugh

Title: Assistant Professor in Geological Engineering Program

Affiliation: University of Wisconsin, Civil & Environmental Engineering Dept.

Address: 2258 Engineering Hall; 1415 Engineering Drive; Madison, WI 53705

Telephone: 608.262.3835

E-mail: alumbaugh@engr.wisc.edu

Web site: http://www.engr.wisc.edu/cee/

About the Speaker:

Dr. Alumbaugh is an Assistant Professor in Geological Engineering, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  He received his BS degree in Geological Sciences from San Diego State University in 1986, and MS and Ph.D. degrees in Geophysical Engineering from the University of California at Berkeley in 1989 and 1993, respectively. After finishing the PhD, he joined the Geophysical Technology Department at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, NM as a post-doctoral researcher, and was promoted to a Senior Member of the Technical Staff in 1996. Dr. Alumbaugh’s interests have been focused on the use of electromagnetic geophysical methods for imaging the Earth’s subsurface, with applications in environmental assessment and waste site characterization, hydrological studies, and natural resource exploration and characterization. He has been involved in all facets of the geophysical imaging problem including data acquisition and interpretation, as well as theoretical development of computer algorithms to assist in data processing and interpretation

Speaker 1: Louise Pellerin

Title: Research Scientist in Geological Engineering

Affiliation: University of Wisconsin, Civil & Environmental Engineering Dept.

Address: 2215 Curtis Street; Berkeley, CA 94702

Telephone: 510.704.1566

E-mail: pellerin01@aol.com

Web site: http://www.engr.wisc.edu/cee/

About the Speaker:

Dr. Pellerin is currently a research scientist at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She received her BS degree from the University of California, Berkeley and her MS and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Utah - all in geophysics. She has over 24 years experience in exploration geophysics, including positions as a research geophysicist with the US Geological Survey and a visiting professor at the University of Aarhus, Denmark. Working on a variety of challenging problems, she was the principle investigator on several large projects to develop innovative techniques for use in environmental applications. Dr. Pellerin is proficient in the field deployment and interpretation of most electromagnetic techniques and has extensive knowledge of the magnetotelluric method having used it on crustal studies and geothermal problems in both field and theoretical studies.
